PR Engineering was appointed to do the council submission and detailed design of the new student accommodation located in Zonnebloem, Cape town. The brief was to convert the old AA House or testing centre to the student accommodation. Due to the large amount of students the fire engineering proved the most difficult and additional staircases were required. The fresh air consisted of the internal spaces not naturally ventilated, the internal kitchen makeup air and the bathroom extraction, air conditioning was not in the brief. The plumbing and drainage was relatively simple with the bathrooms, showers and kitchens all located in close proximity, allowing efficient reticulation. The electrical & electronic engineering services consisted of standard small power, access control and fire detection.
